The Program:

Explorers is an experiential education program. We partner with 3rd - 5th grade classrooms in the Richmond Public Schools (RPS) system. Each partner school participates in field trips in the Richmond area; these trips incorporate team-building activities designed to build/help students recognize resilience skills, experiential lessons correlated with Virginia Standards of Learning, and nature exploration.

Job Details:

Time Frame: September 2024 through April 2025

Work day: 9 AM – 1:30 PM Tuesday through Friday

Pay: Educators are compensated at a rate of $16/hour

Hours: approximately 18 hours/week

Adventure Program Instructor

The Program

The Outdoor Adventure Clubs (OACs) work with 5th through 8th grade students in the city of Richmond, primarily at Richmond Public School middle schools. During weekly or twice weekly meetings, participants learn and grow through various outdoor adventure activities including, but not limited to, rock climbing, canoeing, hiking, orienteering, geocaching, and overnight camping trips. While working on these hard skills, participants will also strengthen their resilience.

Job Details

Time Frame: January through June 2024

Work day: Working time ranges from 2:30-6:30pm

Pay: compensated at a rate of $16/hour

Hours: approximately 8-24 hours/week

Part-time Bus Driver

The Program:

Each partner school participates in field trips in the Richmond area; these trips incorporate team-building activities designed to build/help students recognize resilience skills, experiential lessons correlated with Virginia Standards of Learning, and nature exploration. As one of the bus drivers, you will ensure students make it to site of the day and back to the school.

Job Details:

Time Frame: September 2023 through April 2024

Work day: 8 AM – 2:30 PM Tuesday through Friday

Pay: Bus Drivers are compensated at a rate of $25-$28/hour

Hours: approximately 20-31 hours/week

Summer Programs Intern

The Program:
Blue Sky's summer programming runs 4-days a week with 5 hours of outdoor adventure programming per day. Each week, Blue Sky will provide trips to Pocahontas State Park, Powhatan State Park, and Lake Anna State Park.  Each participant will be able to spend at least 2 1/2 hours in a state park at the river, lake, on the trails, using canoes, etc. with a focus on seeing the natural wonders close to Richmond and making those accessible.

Job Details

Time Frame: June 9 - August 15, 2025

Work day: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM; Monday through Thursday

Pay: $3,600 in pay. There is also a $150 professional development stipend (i.e. conference attendance, association membership, etc)

Hours: 30 hours/week at maximum
